  • Varied projects, with ownership from concept through construction
  • Supportive colleagues and leaders who make time for their people
  • Flexible hours, health insurance and a nine-day fortnight option

Good projects. Good people. A Hawke’s Bay lifestyle.

If you enjoy the variety of land development engineering - shaping a design, working through consenting, building client relationships and seeing construction progress - this opportunity brings those elements together.

You’ll join an established, medium-sized engineering consultancy, leading residential, commercial and industrial projects. You’ll have room to use your judgement and take ownership, alongside experienced colleagues who share their knowledge and help each other work through challenges.

And outside work, there’s Hawke’s Bay: beaches, cycle trails, wineries, great food and plenty of ways to enjoy time with family and friends.

Your role

Reporting to the Civil Engineering Manager, you’ll lead projects from concept through consenting and construction. You’ll combine hands-on civil design with project and client management, keeping the technical work, programme and commercial requirements moving together.

You’ll work directly with clients, councils and other consultants, prepare designs and technical reports, and oversee contract management and construction monitoring. You’ll also manage milestones, budgets, variations and invoicing, taking responsibility for the successful delivery of your projects.

There’s an opportunity to contribute to the team’s development too - coaching colleagues, sharing your experience and helping less experienced engineers build their confidence and capability.

The team and benefits

People here value being able to ask questions, exchange ideas and draw on each other’s experience. Leaders are accessible and involved, and regular team catch-ups and social activities help keep people connected.

The consultancy also recognises that work needs to fit with life. Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll have:

  • Flexible start and finish times, including around family commitments
  • A nine-day fortnight option after your first six months
  • Health insurance, with discounted cover for family members
  • Flexibility to work from home when needed, with the team primarily working together in the office

About you

You’ll bring sound technical judgement, a proactive approach and the ability to build productive relationships. You’ll enjoy taking responsibility for projects and be willing to share your knowledge with others.

You’ll need a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, and at least five years’ New Zealand civil and land development design experience. Strong knowledge of New Zealand standards and council consenting processes is essential, along with project and client management skills and clear written and verbal communication.

CPEng status, or working towards it, and hydraulic modelling experience would be advantageous. Permanent New Zealand work rights are required.
