If you’ve been considering a move to New Zealand, this could be the time to make that happen.
Established in July 2026, Tiaki Wai is the new water services organisation responsible for drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services across Wellington City, Porirua City, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt.
Tiaki Wai is strengthening its network engineering capabilities and looking internationally for experienced water and wastewater engineers who want to join the team and make New Zealand home.

Join Tiaki Wai Network Engineers Team
We are actively recruiting for Intermediate and Senior Network Engineers and Senior Project Engineers.
Tiaki Wai Network Engineers investigate recurring network and asset issues, assess condition and engineering risk, determine what requires intervention and when, define the appropriate renewal response and develop the final project scope.
Tiaki Wai Project Engineers then take scoped renewal projects through design and delivery, applying engineering standards and specifications, making practical design and site decisions, and working closely with contractors and stakeholders to resolve issues and keep work moving.
You’ll work close to the assets and be trusted to apply your engineering judgement, making sound engineering decisions in practical, site-based environments. At senior level, you’ll provide technical guidance and share your experience with less experienced engineers, as well as working on projects with higher complexity.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for degree-qualified Civil / Mechanical / Environmental Engineers with strong water and/or wastewater network experience gained within a water utility, municipality, consultancy or contractor. We have opportunities at different levels - from experienced intermediate engineers through to senior engineers with substantial industry experience.
Depending on the position, your experience could include:
- network and asset investigation
- condition assessment, risk evaluation and prioritisation
- renewals and infrastructure improvement
- development of project scopes
- engineering design and applying engineering standards and specifications
- programme, project and contract delivery
- contractor management and construction monitoring
Wellington offers the chance to combine interesting engineering work with the lifestyle New Zealand is known for. The capital is a vibrant harbour city surrounded by coastline and nature, with beaches, walking and cycling trails close by and the rest of New Zealand ready to explore.
For the right engineers, this could be more than your next job – it could be your opportunity to build a career and a life in New Zealand.
