Shape the future of critical water infrastructure

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Engineer - Water & Wastewater Treatment to provide technical leadership across the commissioning and handover of new and upgraded treatment facilities.

This is a senior role focused on treatment plant systems - mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls and process performance. You will act as a subject matter expert for commissioning quality, helping ensure assets are safe, reliable and fully operational before being handed over to operations.

This is an opportunity to influence how commissioning is approached across a significant infrastructure portfolio. If you are passionate about operational readiness, technical excellence and leaving a legacy of well-commissioned infrastructure, this role offers both challenge and purpose.

About the role

This is not a hands-on site commissioning role. It is a senior technical and advisory position focused on governance, assurance, quality and operational performance.

The role is primarily focused on commissioning treatment plant systems, including:

  • Water and wastewater treatment plants
  • Mechanical and electrical systems
  • Instrumentation, controls and SCADA
  • Process plant upgrades and new facilities

As a senior technical advisor, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership for the commissioning and handover of water and wastewater treatment plant projects
  • Review and approve commissioning plans, methodologies and data deliverables
  • Ensure operational readiness and asset performance prior to handover
  • Champion best-practice commissioning standards across the project lifecycle
  • Work closely with operations, digital, planning and project teams
  • Act as a technical advisor and mentor to project teams and junior engineers

About you

You are a technically credible commissioning engineer with strong treatment plant experience and the ability to influence project teams and operational stakeholders.

You will bring:

  • Commissioning experience on water or wastewater treatment plants, ideally across mechanical, electrical, process or controls systems
  • Strong understanding of operational readiness, asset handover and plant performance
  • Experience working with contractors, system integrators and operational teams
  • The ability to provide technical leadership, mentor others and drive best practice
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Ideally, you will have:

  • A background in Mechanical, Electrical, Process or Controls Engineering
  • A minimum of seven years’ post-qualification experience in water or wastewater treatment infrastructure
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or be working towards it

The opportunity

You’ll join a collaborative, values-driven organisation responsible for critical water infrastructure and work across complex, meaningful projects that serve communities for generations.

The role offers:

  • A supportive and professional engineering environment
  • High-impact projects across water and wastewater treatment plants
  • Flexible working options and strong professional development support
  • The opportunity to shape commissioning standards and future capability
